Ad-Vantage started as a temporary role for me but soon turned permanent, and it’s been the most enjoyable job of my 10 years in yachting. As a support yacht, the vessel itself is fairly straightforward, but the crew accommodation was excellent, I shared a spacious two berth cabin with the Chief Officer as Second Engineer. While there isn’t a dedicated gym, there’s equipment onboard and plenty of space for exercising outside. The yacht supports a fantastic 50m Heesen mothership, which brings a unique dynamic to the program: a small boat work lifestyle with all the perks of a big-boat crew when at anchor or alongside for social activities. It’s a truly hospitable program that has taken me all over the world, with incredible destinations to explore, whether vetting locations for the owners or enjoying well earned time off. One of the standout aspects is the longevity of the senior crew, which ensures a professional, well run management style. The owners are the best I’ve ever worked for, generous, down to earth, and genuinely eager to get to know their crew, including them in both shoreside and onboard activities. From an engineering perspective, this position really developed me. The commercial style engine room offered invaluable hands on experience, and the fleet of tenders broadened my technical knowledge even further. Working in a smaller team also gave me the opportunity to gain deck experience, tender driving, crane operations, and general deck support. Overall, Ad-Vantage is an incredible program with a supportive environment, amazing travel opportunities, and owners who truly care about their crew. I’d highly recommend this yacht to anyone.
